Acquilano, partnered with MOA Architecture (core & shell architect), won the commission to design DaVita’s new corporate headquarters. DaVita, a worldwide leader in dialysis care, opted to build Denver’s first build-to-suit office building downtown since the mid ’80s. Located at the base of Denver’s iconic Millennium Bridge in LoDo, the headquarter building offers DaVita much more than just office space. The headquarters’ progressive plan is highlighted by an eatery and ‘Marketplace’ event space on the top floor, three 2-story atriums within the teammate floors, a dialysis training clinic, 2 large outdoor terraces, a tiered auditorium, fitness center, and much more!
Location: Denver, CO

The design concept was to provide DaVita a “modern-mountain” look representative of colorful Colorado with touches of healthcare driven hospitality. Most importantly the space was to be a place caregiver, patients, and the Denver community could all call home. The look should be “nice but not too nice”.
“We selected finishes that kept the spaces casual. Beetle-kill wood, Colorado ledge stone, and highly patterned carpets helped us create interest without being too serious.”
– Donna Marlow, Acquilano
“Acquilano [interior architecture] and MOA [core & shell partner architect] just ‘got us’. They understood our culture, and their collective design responses exceeded our expectations.”
– Kent Thiry, Mayor (CEO)
Healthy & Sustainable Environment
The DaVita WHQ project was LEED NC Gold certified when the door opened late-summer 2012. Through additional commissioning, the project was later re-certified as a LEED Platinum facility.
“DaVita committed early to allocate the entire top floor to the teammates. This posed architectural challenges, but the result is a roof top experience second to none. The spaces are certainly impactful, but the people-first thinking behind it is what sticks with me.”
– Melissa Marlow, Acquilano
The DaVita Way
Upon entry, visitors will immediately feel this facility is unique. The Village (company) and it’s Mayor (CEO, Kent Thiry) do things differently – they call this ‘The DaVita Way’. The differences run deep but ‘friends of DaVita’ may first notice the environment is rich with branding and graphics. Statistics, awards, patenting testimonials, and experiential installments like the gondola and custom woven Axminister carpets all contribute to an office like no other.
